Biological Evolution

The other night I was brushing my teeth when this amazing thing happened. I got a glimpse into my own eyes. Now, I’m not going to get too woo-woo on you, but it was one of those mystical moments of compete connection.

This got me thinking that one of the main reasons that breakdowns occur, in our lives, is because we are biologically outwardly focused. Although this may seem simple, we overlook it most of the time.

  1. You ought to read Jean Paul Sartre. In his book, “Being and Nothingness”, he talks of how human consciousness is aware of itself as a subject and as an object. You are aware of yourself as a subject when you are feeling the texture of a cloth, or playing an instrument. As a subject you are looking out with your senses - you do not perceive yourself.

You become an object when you are aware of being part of someone else’s subjective experience.

Let’s say you are standing in an empty corridor peeping through the keyhole into a room. As you peep, you are looking out. The keyhole is your means to see what’s in the room. You have trained your senses at something in the room while being completely unaware of yourself. Let’s say you now hear footsteps in the corridor. Suddenly you realize YOU were seen. Someone has seen you - they have trained their senses on you and made you aware of yourself. You are now aware of yourself from the outside. You are aware of yourself as an object.

Sorry for the long comment. Hope I didn’t bore you.
